May in the Garden

I love this time of the year when the heat of the day has gone. I find myself wondering through my garden more often, collecting kindling and discovering new textures. It’s like a ritual of sorts. Mornings begin with cockatoos and kookaburras, and I pull on a jumper and boots and walk on the dewy grass to get a little closer.

Here are some closeups of a section of my garden that is full of grevillea and purple fountain grass. A few years ago we had stone steps laid for easier access to the embankment. Now, time has now cloaked them in green moss and speckled lichen. The eucalyptus tree has shed its bark to reveal nature’s marks. Tucked amongst the clumps are pops of pink Kangaroo Paw.

Sadly my banksia tree has died. I’m not sure why with the amount rain we have had over the last year. Perhaps too much? The ash and hints of ochre in the leaves are striking, and it remains to have a presence amongst the magnolia and jacarandas.

For now, I will photograph it all, and file it for work towards my Sunset Road series.
