LETHBRIDGE LANDSCAPE PRIZE: 2025
FINALIST – Scarred Lands
ARTIST STATEMENT: The essence of her work revolves around the themes of existence—life and mortality. Her interests lie within inquiring about the natural world, but recently Tiel has been personally focussing on the finite durations of life and humanity’s influence on the environment. ‘Death is inevitable, but when it is unexpected or forced upon you, it stirs deep emotions and anger. Whether it is someone you love, or something you love.’ By intertwining themes of decay and resilience, Tiel aims to foster a deeper understanding of the human experience and the profound interconnectedness between life and death. Her intent is to also foster a dialogue about how art can communicate a message to the audience about these themes and not just be another landscape painting about a place. She endeavours to ask questions about the importance of nature, the role of science and the greed of humanity.
TERRA FIRMA III –Translating as ‘solid earth’, Terra Firma III invites five artists from across the country (Tiel Seivl-Keevers, Steve Singline, John Gatip, Ileigh Hellier and Colleen Guiney) to consider and respond to their surroundings. As our environment and climate face huge challenges from human impact, these painters have captured moments of quiet beauty in the landscape.
